I’m an avid lover of all things vintage, and make-up is no exception. I don’t wear a lot of make-up daily, but eyeliner is a must have for the lovely 50s flick I like to wear.
Once upon a time I would use a gel pot eyeliner, but I kept finding the brush would get mangled quicker than the gel pot would run out and decided to find something a little bit different. So when a work colleague starting selling Avon cosmetics, I thought it was time to try a new eyeliner pen.
Avon Super Extend Liquid Eyeliner on first look seems impressive. I went for the black option, as I like the line dark and dramatic. It’s a good size, the pen nib is nice and stiff (I can’t stand the ‘floppy’ ones as I’m just not used to using them) and I was looking forward to trying it out.
Now, any woman who has tried liquid eyeliner will know the most common issue; you have one ‘good’ eye, and one misbehaved eye. And this is where I found the biggest struggle with this product. For first ‘good’ eye application the colour layers on nice and smoothly, with a good dark and consistent finish. So far, so good. But the 2nd eye seems to go on a lot paler than the first, almost like the nib has ran out of ink and there’s isn’t enough to get nice even lines.
I’ve tried closing the lid and trying to apply the 2nd eye a couple of minutes later but this doesn’t help much – and let’s be honest, who actually has time for that? There’s also an unusual chemical-like smell to the liner which can be a bit off-putting when it’s going so close to the eye.
Overall, this isn’t a complete disaster and I’ve been using it pretty regularly – despite its’ flaws – but it’s likely to get shelved as soon as I can go back to the gel pot eyeliner as I don’t have the patience to stick with this one.
